25 Years Later, Pair Looks to Break Own Record

In 1983, Jay Thurston and Mike Kinziger set the record for paddling the length of the Wisconsin River: eight days, three hours and 13 minutes.
Twenty-five years later, the swift-paddling pair are back in a canoe together attempting to better that mark. The Portage Daily Register, HERE, caught up with Thurston, 75, and Kinziger, 60, in the midst of their 436-mile journey.
Paddling 16 hours each day, the team thinks they can complete their current trip — which includes 26 portages — in one week.
