Canada’s Quetico Turns 100 Years Old

3 Mar

Quetico Provincial Park, the renowned wilderness paddling venue in western Ontario, turns 100 years old this year.

The million-plus acre park,  just across the international border from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, was first protected on April 1, 1909 as the “Quetico Forest and Game Reserve.”  In honor of the anniversary — and the fantastic paddling destination it protected — Canoeing.com has published some special features on the park.

Our Destination Guide sports a brand new story about the park HERE.

We’ve got another feature story about the preservation history of Quetico and the Superior National Forest — which also turns 100 this year — HERE.

There’s also a calendar listing dozens of Quetico centennial events HERE.

And, since you may want to celebrate the birthday with a trip of your own across Quetico’s rugged and stunning landscape, don’t forget to check out our Quetico Destination Guide page, HERE.

Happy Birthday Quetico!
