Daniel Dancer’s Sky Canoe
8 Oct
Oregon-based artist Daniel Dancer, whose Art for the Sky program creates large works of art to be viewed from above, created a giant canoe with the help of 150 students and faculty in the Bangor, Maine area school recently.
The art work called “Sky Canoe” depicted a Penobscot Nation Indian figure paddling a 104-foot-long canoe, with students and adults serving as the waters of the Penobscot River. You can read more about the creation — and see a photo of it — HERE in the Bangor Daily News.
In the story, Dancer says his works are metaphors:
“You can see how everything is connected. The number one thing we have to do as a species is awaken our skysight, to be able to see the big picture and how things are connected. Then we’ll take better care of the earth.”
