Defending Concrete Canoe Champs Beaten
22 Apr
The University of Nevada-Reno, the 2008 National Concrete Canoe Champions, were upset in regional competition last week by last year’s National Championship runners-up, the University of California. The Nevada-Reno student paper — the Nevada Sagebrush — reported on the contest, HERE.
Competing at the Mid-Pacific Regional of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 22nd Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition in Reno, the defending champs won each of the competition’s five paddling races, but finished second in the overall contest which includes design papers and oral presentations.
Both teams advanced to the National Championships to be held at the University of Alabama in June.
The Mid-Pacific Regional result augurs an interesting National Championship. Earlier, we reported, HERE, that the University of Evansville upset the University of Wisconsin, winners of five-straight national titles prior to Nevada’s win last year, at the Great Lakes Regional.
