Hungarian Olympians Paddle and Remember
18 Aug
Members of the Hungarian Olympic canoeing and kayaking teams participated in today’s opening session of flatwater paddling competition wearing black armbands in memory of fallen countryman Gyorgy Kolonics, a canoeing gold medalist in 1996 and 2000.
Kolonics died last month after collapsing in his canoe while training for the Beijing Games, which would have been his fifth Olympics. Fox News ran THIS story and photo of Kolonics at the time of his death.
The Associated Press has THIS story about the Hungarian team’s desire to mourn Kolonics and still focus on their own Olympic objectives.
Flatwater competition runs through Saturday. You can find results of the competition HERE.
