Join 350 River of Action
1 Oct
River of Action, a 350.org initiative, recently posted an open letter to the paddling community, inviting canoeists, kayakers and paddlers of all kinds to join them in the International Day of Climate Action on October 24th. Paddlers around the world will gather on their local waterways to form the number 350.
According to the letter, “350 parts per million (ppm) is the amount of carbon dioxide the earth’s atmosphere can handle without catastrophic climate change.” Since the atmosphere is already at 390 ppm, 350.org has organized the day of action to send a message about the importance of returning to 350 ppm to global leaders meeting in Copenhagen in December. They will negotiate a climate change agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol.
Currently, every country but North Korea is participating. To join an event in your area, check out the River of Action web site for events in your community. Or start your own.
