Long-Lost Canoe Prompts Rescue Search
26 Mar
A canoe lost after floods last June swept it into Wisconsin’s Root River prompted a Lake Michigan rescue search this week when it, and what appeared to be a person in the water, were spotted off-shore near Racine, Wisconsin.
Coast Guard rescue helicopters from Waukegan, Illinois and Traverse City, Michigan participated in a seach along the Lake Michigan shoreline, as did a local Coast Guard water-patrol boat and Racine firefighters.
After the owner of the battered canoe was identified — see a photo of the boat, HERE — authorities learned the boat had been missing, and apparently adrift, for some nine months.
