Olympian’s Bronze Medal Canoe Stolen

Here’s some news the canoe gods will certainly frown down upon …
Australian Olympian Robin Bell’s competition canoe, the one he paddled when he earned a bronze medal in C-1 whitewater competition at last summer’s Beijing Olympics, has been stolen. Bell returned to the Penrith Whitewater Stadium in Sydney recently and found his canoe missing.
While miffed by the theft, Bell also worries about the safety of anyone attempting to paddle the boat.
“It is a specialized and unique craft,” Bell said in THIS Sydney Daily Telegraph story. “Most people wouldn’t know how to even sit in it. If they did, it could be quite dangerous for them. If it toppled over and they were in it, they could get caught under it.”
Bell, who hasn’t decided yet whether to train for the 2012 London Games, was planning to get back in the water with his boat.
“I’m still not sure in what capacity I will be paddling next year, but this has slowed my plans down,” Bell told The Sunday Times, HERE.
