Race Planned for Rio Grande
1 Sep
To most people, it’s a border rather than an actual river. Locals are taught to stay away from it, rather than enjoy it.
In an effort to change those attitudes, Laredo, Texas’ annual RioFest celebration, scheduled for October 16 and 17, will feature a 33-mile canoe race down the Rio Grande, which, of course, defines the international border between the United States and Mexico.
The San Antonio Express-News wrote THIS story about a recent reconnaissance paddle down the river by race organizers.
While racers can expect some scrutiny from the Border Patrol, there’s nothing illegal about launching from the U.S., paddling down the river, and returning to the U.S.
