Triebold, Lajoie Win AuSable Again
27 Jul
For the second straight year and for the third time since 2004, Andrew Triebold of Spring Arbor, Michigan and Steve Lajoie of Mirabel, Quebec were winners at the Weyerhaeuser AuSable River Canoe Marathon.
The duo won a wire-to-wire victory — and $5,000 — paddling the 120-mile course in 14 hours, 17 minutes, and 42 seconds. Last year the pair won in 14:09:06.
Matt Streib of Bristol, Indiana was in the runner-up boat for the second year in a row, finishing in 14:29:18 with partner Steve Corlew of Brighton, Michigan. Last year Streib finished second with Steve Kolonich.

Triebold and Lajoie’s win puts them just one victory away from their second straight sweep of marathon canoeing’s “Triple Crown.” A triumph at Quebec’s Classique Internationale de Canots in September would match the international pair’s trio of wins in 2008 at New York’s General Clinton Canoe Regatta, the AuSable River Marathon, and the Classique.
