Yukon 1,000 Race Opens Registration
26 Sep
Do you remember the Seinfeld episode where Kramer, learning that the New York City Marathon is a few days off, slaps himself on the forehead and says, “I keep forgetting to enter that!”
Well, if you mean to enter the first annual Yukon 1,000 Canoe and Kayak race — at 1,000 miles, the world’s longest — don’t blame us if you forget. We’re reminding you now that registration for the race, which begins July 20, 2009 and runs down the Yukon River from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to the Alaska Pipeline/Dawson Trail crossing in Alaska, is now underway.
Canoeing News reported on the initial annoucement of the event, HERE, earlier this year.
Race organizers, HERE, advertise the race as demanding, “7 to 12 days of 18 hours solid paddling.”
It makes the idea of Kramer jumping into a 26.2 miles footrace seem a little less crazy, actually.
