60th Devizes to Westminster Race Underway
21 Mar
Although “all four seasons” greeted competitors for the 60th Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon yesterday, more than 500 competitors are expected to compete in the 125-mile-long race from rural Wiltshire to London, the Wiltshire Times reports.
The race, which this year had a beer brewed in its honor and has been described as “the canoeist’s Everest,” is expected to see harsh conditions according to the BBC, HERE.
While teams breaking up the race distance over four days pushed off for the event yesterday, the hardy racers who compete in the non-stop event will commence Saturday morning and join the rest of the field for an Easter Sunday finish.
Most of the non-stop competitors will complete the event in around 24 hours.
