Group Ponders Around-the-World Paddle
17 Mar
The Honolulu-based Polynesian Voyaging Society is contemplating a three-year, around the world paddle using the group’s 62-foot-long, double-hulled voyaging canoe, the Hokule’a.
If undertaken, the expedition, according to THIS Honolulu Star Bulletin story, would travel west from Hawaii through the South Pacific, pass north of Australia en route to the Suez Canal, cross the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, before passing through the Panama Canal and returning to Hawaii via the Galapagos Island and Rapa Nui.
A map of the route can be found HERE.
The Hokule’a completed a more than 8,000-mile journey to Micronesia and Japan last year. Details of that voyage can be found HERE on the group’s trip blog.
If undertaken, the around-the-world trip would begin in 2011.
